Depressed antithrombin III biological activity in opiate addicts.
نویسندگان
چکیده
Antithrombin III activity was significantly decreased in opiate addicts, but no difference was found between addict and control groups in antithrombin III plasma concentration. Moreover, glycosylated haemoglobin concentration was increased in opiate addicts, but no correlation between glycosylated haemoglobin and antithrombin III activity was found. These data show that in opiate addicts there is depressed biological activity of antithrombin III. Further characterisation of the molecular changes in antithrombin III in addicts is needed to establish whether the impaired activity is affected by altered glucose metabolism.

Factors influencing the course of opiate addiction.
AIMS To describe important non-biological factors which influence the course of opiate addiction. METHOD Studies were reviewed that present empirical results on the long-term course of opiate addiction, progress of opiate addicts during and after treatment, variables that predict remission and abstinence, comparisons of treated and untreated samples, and recovery from opiate addiction without...
متن کاملInactivation of antithrombin III in synovial fluid from patients with rheumatoid arthritis.
OBJECTIVE To investigate the thrombin inhibitory capacity of antithrombin III in the inflamed human joint. METHODS Thrombin inhibitory capacity was measured, using a kinetic spectophotometric method, in matched plasma and synovial fluid samples of patients with rheumatoid arthritis (n = 22) and osteoarthritis (n = 16), together with normal control plasma samples (n = 13). In the same samples,...
متن کاملAnti-thrombin III activity in cerebrovascular accidents.
UNLABELLED Cerebrovascular accidents are commonly due to occlusive or haemorrhagic lesions. The present prospective study was planned to find out role of antithrombin in possible etiopathological process, which might predispose an individual for stroke. METHOD Biological activity of antithrombin III was done by the method as described by Innerfield et al (1976). Immunological estimation of an...
متن کاملPrognostic Significance of Psychopathology in the Abstinence from Opiate Addiction
The aim of the present study was to find out the influence of psychopathology on abstinence from opiate addiction. A group of 54 opiate addicts with psychopathology was compared with another group of 55 opiate addicts without psychopathology. Both the groups were detoxified and followed up for a period of 12 months.Common psychopathology in opiate addicts consisted of psychopathic personality d...
متن کاملAntithrombin III Basel. Identification of a Pro-Leu substitution in a hereditary abnormal antithrombin with impaired heparin cofactor activity.
Antithrombin III Basel is a hereditary abnormal antithrombin with normal progressive inhibition activity (normal reactive site) and reduced heparin cofactor activity (impaired heparin binding site). Structures of antithrombin III Basel and normal antithrombin III isolated from the same patient were compared by peptide mapping using the dimethylaminoazobenzene isothiocyanate precolumn derivatiza...
